They give a good foundation for understanding the programs. The "Bible" inference is a bit misleading. This is not an inspirational work, rather it is encyclopedic in volume and dry as the Mojave.
For most subjects it reads like a Help Menu, and does very good job of detailed explanation. Despite the heft it glaringly omits discussion of Charts important to this reviewer , and devotes only a few pages to Crosstab queries. The examples are nothing special or insightful.
This tome has limited appeal over a good deal of online material, other than being a single source that is reasonably comprehensive. It serves as reference manual to turn to when you have a specific question. But to learn Access and read it cover-to-cover is a struggle; it functions better as a soporific.
In contrast, I found the "Access The Missing Manual" by Matthew MacDonald a tremendously better read, much more of a conversational style yet every bit as informative in teaching Access.
Unlike the "Bible", the style motivated me to read it cover-to-cover. Ironically, I think the book titles got it backwards. One person found this helpful. Disclaimer: I have not read through the entire book. But what I did read was fantastic. The book is very thorough but not full of heavy-technical reading in the least. They introduce a lot of very important points related to databases. Someone new to the subject would really do well to understand as completely as possible the facets of relational databases.
The author s does that before getting into specifics. A straight jump into Access can be like getting lost in the wilderness and walking around in circles. Following this book will save a lot of time in the long run.
It also introduces important practices related to databases and data in general. It is well worth your time to go through this book chapter-by-chapter and fully grasping what is presented. This is probably the best computer-related book I have read.

The Authors know their stuff and organise their book is a way that makes logical sense to them But they know it all from the start of the book. Readers do not. They have a blank sheet of paper that can only be filled over time as the various components of their ignorance are eroded. That needs a different sequence of explanations to those provided by the authors.
Starts well, explaining about declaring variables and the idea of subroutines. But then jumps off into DoCmd and OpenForm. I have to guess that I'm going to have to transfer data from forms to the variables that I have just learned how to declare, but it is a guess. Because my sequence in learning incrementally in not the same sequence as the authors use in explaining their comprehensive knowledge, I need to know how to call data from the form but the authors don't give that info: they provide fig The authors must know and must think it is so obvious that they do need to explain: they are wrong!.
AN addendum 26 Sept The chaos is worse than I first thought. It says, quite rightly, "Data access and management are at the core of any database application" But this quote is on page !! You will have to wide through nearly pages before you touch on the problem of manipulating data from more than one table and, when you get here, the printed pages do not match the downloaded examples.
Dreadful editing. Awful index all done in a hurry. A bad, bad, book This is a common, almost universal complaint about technical books written by 'experts'.
They forget the learning sequence is NOT the same as the sequence they see as necessary to explain their expertise. NEVER use any technical term with preceding it with an explanation of what it is for!! Access Bible is useful, readable and comprehensive.
